Richard "Dick" Davidson of Annapolis, MD died this week at his home on the Little Magothy River. He was 79 years old.

Dick was the son of an Army Veteran (Bill Davidson) who was mortally wounded in France during WWII and his mother (Bertie). He grew up in Upper Darby, PA and played football at Upper Darby High School. He went on to attend Westchester State Teachers College, while serving as a reservist in the Marine Corp. Dick completed his Masters Degree at Temple University and his Doctorate in education at The George Washington University. Dick had a colorful career culminating as the long-time head of the American Hospital Association where he tirelessly fought for improvements in our nation's health care system.

Dick embraced life with passion and grace. He loved his family and was the wise father and grandfather always offering sound advice on life and career. He enjoyed fishing trips with his sons and lifelong friends, sing-alongs, watching the Ospreys from his deck and trouncing his buddies at tennis. He loved sporting events especially college basketball. As a kid he was an avid Phillies fan and knew every statistic for every player on the field.

Dick was involved in many charitable institutions, but was most proud of being a founder of Health Care for the Homeless, a nonprofit organization that now serves thousands of our nations homeless population.

Davidson is survived by the love of his life and wife of 59 years, Janet and was the devoted father of his three sons and their spouses Michael (Diane), Rick (Tina) and Andy (Margo). He was the loving brother of Bob (Ann) and a proud grandfather of Justin, Fraser, Emily, Caroline, Mandy, Courtney and Sarah. He will be missed dearly by all, including his loyal pup Oliver.

Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday April 2, 2016 at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, located at 1601 Pleasant Plains Road, Annapolis, MD 21409. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Healthcare for the Homeless (www.hchmd.org) or to the Delmarva Nesting Foundation (delmarvanestingfoundation.org).
