Raymond U. May, 71, of Severna Park, died of cancer June 1 at home after an 18-month illness.

Born Aug. 6, 1933, and reared in Baltimore, Mr. May attended Baltimore Polytechnical High School and graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1957 with a degree in electrical engineering. His past residences include Montgomery County and Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

He served in the Merchant Marines and the Army from 1956 to 1960. Subsequently he worked in high-tech electronic sales, dealing directly with government agencies and local companies before starting his own consulting company in 1992.

A member of the Fleet Reserve in Annapolis, he also belonged to American Legion Post 175 and the Annapolis Yacht Club.

Surviving are his wife, Donna L. May, whom he married May 2, 1986; two sons, Doug A. May of Arnold and David C. May of Chevy Chase; one stepson, Don K. Carner of Severna Park; one stepdaughter, Dori L. Fahlfeder of Monrovia; and two grandsons.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Burial is private.
