Randolph David Ziegler, 58, a resident of Severna Park, MD passed away on May 30, 2016.
He was born on November 20, 1957 in Baltimore and raised in Milllersville, MD by George and Frances Mueller. He graduated from Arundel Senior High School in 1975, attended Anne Arundel Community College and graduated from the University of Maryland in College Park in 1980 with a degree in Computer Science.
Randy immeasurably enjoyed sports especially baseball. He started playing baseball at age 8 with the Gambrills Athletic Club. He went on to play in high school and at Anne Arundel Community College. In January of 1978 he was honored with the Hearst All Stars MVP award for his long ball hitting and his RBI's. He was primarily a third baseman but could throw an endless number of pitches. His endurance for pitching proved valuable as his sons played baseball and he became involved in coaching their teams with the Green Hornets Athletic Association. It was not uncommon for him to throw in excess of two hundred pitches during batting practice. After his youngest son graduated from high school, Randy volunteered with the Annapolis High School Baseball team for the 2016 season. In 2014 Randy attended the Orioles Dream Week. He spoke often and fondly of the Dream Week experience. It was a dream that came true for him to play baseball like the pros including a championship game at Camden Yards. In addition to baseball, Randy enjoyed golf, football, fishing, crabbing, and a cold one with friends and family.
After a brief search, Randy was reunited in 2003 with his birth father, David Elton Ziegler Sr. of Reno, NV. He was overjoyed to be welcomed into their family and felt a true sense of belonging. He treasured every minute he spent with his expanded family.
He is survived by his wife Rebecca C. Ziegler (nee Boxwell), of Severna Park, his children Adam (Lauren) Mueller of Severna Park, Alex Mueller of Albany, NY, David Ensor of Severna Park, and Colby Ziegler of Severna Park and 3 grandchildren. He is also survived by 6 siblings, Cathie (Bill) Leary, Mindy (Terry) Howard, David E. Ziegler Jr., Shelly Ziegler-Young, Page (Marco) Pinto, of NV, and Melissa Kees of VA.
A Gathering will be held on Friday June 10, 2016 from 1-3:00pm at the Barranco & Sons,P.A Severna Park Funeral Home 495 Ritchie Hwy. Severna Park, MD 21146. Followed by a Memorial Service at 4:05pm at the St Martins in the Field Church 375 Benfield Rd Severna Park, MD 21146.
