Ralph Willis Biddlecomb, 81, died unexpectedly in his sleep on Monday, July 30, 2012. He was born September 10, 1930 in Southport, North Carolina to Vesta W. and Ralph R. Biddlecomb. He grew up in the fishing town of Reedville, Virginia. He graduated from Reedville High School in Virginia and went on to receive his Bachelors of Science from Hampden Sydney College and his Masters of Science from Johns Hopkins University.
After serving in the U.S. Navy, Ralph began his career as an electrical engineer for the Martin Marietta Company before joining Westinghouse Defense in Linthicum, Maryland until he retired in 1990. He made his home for his wife, Sue, and their children in Lutherville, Maryland. Ralph was a leader in the local Boy Scout Troop 340 and accompanied his sons on many outings, was a member of Towson United Methodist Church, and had interests including lapidary and gem cutting, astronomy, and photography. During his retirement, Ralph enjoyed travelling and visited many international cities and foreign countries including Hong Kong, London, Russia, Israel, Egypt and South Africa.
He is survived by his second wife, Judith A. Biddlecomb, of Philipsburg, Pennsylvania. Also surviving him are his children, Rob Biddlecomb, Susan Gerberich and Allan Biddlecomb, as well as ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sue Smith Biddlecomb, and younger brother Edwin R. Biddlecomb.
Family and friends may visit on Monday, August 6, 2012 from 10:00-11:00 AM at Barranco & Sons, P.A, Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Roseland Cemetery in Reedville, VA on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 12:00 pm.
