Rachel Madden, born on the first day of Spring, March 20, 1941 as Racquel Martha Galimba in Watsonville, California died unexpectedly on January 20, 2019 at the age of 77. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Martha Galimba and her brother Frank Galimba, Jr. She is survived by her only child, Tiffany Madden Snowden (and spouse Thomas Snowden) and her two granddaughters, Delaney and Riley.
She attended Cabrillo College in Watsonville, CA after high school. She married Robert Madden in Pacific Grove, CA on December 31, 1960 (divorced 1976). From 1962 to 1967, they lived in various places including New York City, Platteville, WI, Columbia, MO. and finally settling in the Washington D.C. area in 1967.
In 1972, she returned to college and graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor's Degree. Rachel worked for Illinois Institute of Technology Research Institute (IITRI) from 1983 to 2006 and for Alion Science and Technology (Alion) from 2006 to 2009. She maintained a test and measurement library for the IITRI Electromagnetic Test Lab, attaining the position of Senior Librarian, by the time she retired from IITRI in 2006. She came out of retirement between 2006 -2009 to use her database skills and her acquired knowledge of electronic equipments and parts on several DoD projects while at Alion. Her efforts and talents helped Alion to continue to win these contracts for an additional 14 years after her retirement.
In her free time, she enjoyed various activities including traveling, both formal and informal clubs, spending time with her many friends and especially spending time with her granddaughters.
The viewings and service will be at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD, 21146. The viewings are on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. The service will be performed by Deacon Bill of St. Andrews by the Bay Parrish at 11 am on Wednesday, January 30, 2019. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Lighthouse Inc., 10 Hudson St., Annapolis, MD 21401 and The American Heart Association, PO Box 744806, Atlanta, GA 30374-4806 in memory of Rachel Madden.
