IN LOVING MEMORY OF
R. Dean
Fiery
August 24, 1940 – August 5, 2021
R. Dean Fiery passed away on August 5, 2021. Dean was a resident of Arnold for 40 years. He was born on August 24, 1940 to Helen Knode (nee Startzman) and Roger Leatherman Fiery, in Hagerstown, MD, where he was also raised.
Dean graduated from Hagerstown High School, where he rose to First Chair clarinet in the school band. After high school he attended Hagerstown Junior College where he was Freshman Class President. While at Hagerstown Junior College, Dean held a number of roles in TV production. After this, he spent 3 years in the Army. He served as an Army Counter-Intelligence Special Agent. Dean had a long career in the Telecommunications field. He worked first at C&P Telephone, then AT&T, and finally as the owner of his own telecommunications consulting firms.
Dean was interested in home design and building. He designed and built the family home in Arnold himself. He also loved to spend time boating and cycling on the B&A trail. He was a proud Costco (nee Price club) member from 1984 on and enjoyed reading novels as well as Consumer Reports. Dean was particularly fond of the expression: "If Costco doesn't sell it, you don't need it!" This is likely why he had two or more of everything. Dean was an aficionado of martinis, steak and lobster. Some of his favorite ways to enjoy these would include their consumption while listening to orchestral pops music or The Eagles at high volume. Dean very much enjoyed spirited conversations and bantering with his children and friends. Crossword puzzles were another favorite pastime.
Dean is survived by his wife of 48 years, Maria Caponiti Fiery, of Arnold; his son, Richard Dean Fiery, Jr. (Maggie) of Chatham, MA; his son, David Bradford Fiery, of Harrison, NY (Kerry); his son, Charles Christopher Fiery, of Potomac Falls, VA (Kaimy); his daughter, Helen Kirsten Fiery, of Washington, DC (Justin); his brother, Roger L. Fiery (Sally), of Hagerstown, MD; his grandchildren, Scott Fiery, Sarah Fiery, Kaitlyn Fiery, Elle Fiery, David Fiery, Nate Fiery, Cosmo Fiery; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Anita Fiery Bearinger.
A celebration of Dean's life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Parkinson's Foundation: https://secure3.convio.net/prkorg/site/Donation2?10243.donation=form1&df_id=10243&mfc_pref=T
