Robert Dare Brown, 87, of Arnold, Maryland, passed away on December 27, 2025.

He was born on September 21, 1938, in Harrisburg IL, to Helen and Ralph Brown, Jr. He went by his middle name, Dare, but proudly carried the nickname “The Chief Window-Buster” by his childhood apartment complex. After becoming a grandfather he acquired a third nickname, G’pa (a contraction of grandpa). He is survived by his wife, Janet; his sister, Karen; his two daughters, Susan and Becki; their husbands, Eric and Dan, respectively; and his five grandchildren: Drew, Kellianne, Ricky, Brooke, and Justin.

He attended Harrisburg Junior High—which his grandfather helped design—where he enacted vigilante justice and hid the Principal’s corporal punishment belt. His lifelong love of the baritone began there, playing in the band throughout junior high school, high school, and college. He attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he studied mathematics, leading to his long career as a math teacher at Arundel High School in Gambrills, Maryland. He was an academic inspiration to his daughter, Becki, who taught a few doors down the hallway from him, and a major champion of his daughter, Susan, throughout her four years in veterinary school.

He charmed Janet with a date to the well-known romance film, The Manchurian Candidate (1962). They lived together in Arnold, Maryland for fifty years.

At the time of this writing, his favorite NFL team, the Chicago Bears, are still in the playoffs, which he would have loved to see (as that is a rare thing). The family offers a big thank you to Strat-O-Matic, a game company, whose baseball board game provided much happiness to him throughout his life.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 24, 2026, from 2 PM to 5 PM, at Buck Murphy’s Bar & Grill; 378 Mt Vernon Ave Odenton, MD 21113.
