Phyllis van Reuth O'Neill, 87, of Severna Park passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 2nd following a brief illness. Phyllis was born to Alonzo & Mary Conley (McCulloh) in Baltimore, MD on September 14,1933. She is survived by her loving husband Joseph John O'Neill; her three children and their spouses; Mark Edward van Reuth and wife Cira, Jo Ann Phyllis Shedleski and husband John, and daughter Julie Kathleen Coyle. A devoted grandmother and great grandmother, she is mourned by her grandchildren Danah, Corrie, Casey, Jack, Maddie, Allie, Patrick, Molly, and great grandchildren Poppy and Rudy.
Phyllis enjoyed hosting large family Christmas parties, feasting on Maryland steamed crabs and spending summers at the beach. Among her favorite destinations was her home in Avalon, NJ where she frequently called for impromptu, "no shower happy hours." She also spent several winters in Naples, Florida where she enjoyed afternoons with friends on the Gulf Coast. Most cherished by Phyllis was the time she spent with her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Phyllis was an avid bridge player and a member of the Severna Park Bridge Club. She is lovingly remembered by friends and family for her kindness and constant smile . . . also her family's Maryland crab soup recipe.
Phyllis worked for many years in clerical and supportive health care roles. In her 40's she returned to school to pursue a degree in nursing. Following graduation, she was hired by St. Agnes Hospital where she worked for 28 years retiring in 2009.
Family and friends may visit on Saturday, May 8th from 1-5 pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Highway Severna Park, MD 21146. A Mass celebrating Phyllis' life will be held on Monday, May 10th, 11:00 am at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park.
