Philip Read Beigel, Sr.  May 3, 1929 - August 14, 2020
Phil was the son of Philip Beigel and Lelia Erdman Beigel. Phil was raised in Baltimore on Yolanda Road. He graduated from Baltimore City College in 1947 and attended University of Baltimore for continuing education.
He was an Army Corporal in the Korean war, serving in Japan in a hospital there. He was honorably discharged in 1960.
Phil worked at Trident Engineering until his retirement as an accountant.
His love of the water and all things boating was instilled in him while he was a teenager. He spent many wonderful hours on the Magothy at the Grachur Club. He served as President of that Club from 1997 - 1999.
In 1962 he joined the Potapskut Sailing Association on Black Hole Creek, Magothy River and raised his children at both Clubs during their formative years. Cruising and racing sailboats became a way of life for the family. Phil was Commodore of PSA in 1972.
In 1966 the family purchased an Alberg 30 sailboat and they joined the Chesapeake Bay Alberg 30 Association prior to the delivery of the boat. Phil remained a member since that time. His love of the boat and the camaraderie of the membership is what drew him to the Association. His depth of knowledge about the boat and the Association drew others to become members as well. He served as Commodore in 1980.
He held his lifelong friendships at all three Clubs and Trident in the highest esteem. They were long lasting and extremely meaningful to him and sustained him until the end.
Phil is survived by his daughter, Barbara Beigel Vosbury and her husband John, his son, Philip Read Beigel Jr. and his wife Shelly and their children, Laura, Brittney and Read, two nephews and their families.
Many thanks to the staff at Morningside House of Friendship for the great care they take of their residents especially through this COVID time. Also the Hospice of the Chesapeake Palliative Care Unit was outstanding. If you would like to make a remembrance donation for Phil, please consider Hospice of the Chesapeake Palliative Care.
