Peter Joseph Hart Sr., 65, of Severna Park, died of cancer Nov. 29 at Lorien Columbia Center after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Hart was born Oct. 15, 1940, and reared in Brooklyn, N.Y., and resided in Syracuse, N.Y., Richmond, Va., and Crofton. He graduated from St. Bonaventure University in Olean, N.Y.

He worked in the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning industry, beginning his career in 1961 as territory sales manager in Syracuse, eventually becoming general manager for the largest distributor on the East Coast. Among his numerous awards was chairman of the Carrier Branch Advisory Council.

He headed the Chesapeake Football Classic for many years, bringing players together from Maryland and Virginia for the annual charity game. For his efforts, he was given the Governor's Citation for the State of Maryland.

The Archdiocese of Baltimore will be awarding both Mr. Hart and his wife, Ellen Darminio Hart, the Medal of Honor on Saturday for their services to the church and community.

In addition to his wife, surviving are three sons, Peter J. Hart Jr. of Eldersburg, Timothy W. Hart of Wilmington, Del., and Matthew J. Hart of Bellport, N.Y.; two daughters, Mary H. Gagnon of Catonsville and Catherine H. Mangione of Baltimore; two brothers, Raymond and William Hart of Syracuse, N.Y.; two sisters, Maryann Ridgeway of Baldwinsville, N.Y., and Sister Noelle Hart of Albany, Ga.; and 16 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. Entombment will follow in Meadowridge Memorial Park, 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge.
