Peter Lawler Guilday, 83, a resident of Chester, MD, died on January 30, 2012, in Centreville, MD.

He was born on April 6, 1928 in Chester, PA and graduated from Central High School in Washington, D.C. in 1948.
Peter served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1952 and was a Korean War Veteran, Rank AE3.
He attended Corcoran College of Art in Washington, D.C., Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, MD, and University of Maryland College Park
Peter retired in 1984 from National Security Agency after 34 years of service as a Senior Graphic Illustrator.
He attended St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Kent Island, MD.

He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks in Severna Park for 38 years; P.E.R., American Legion for 18 years, and a member of the Anne Arundel Carver's Club.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Lollie Gilman and Jane Guilday; his brother, Edwin Guilday; and sister-in-law Ruth Guilday.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Hartman Guilday; daughters, Jennifer Guilday and Tara Detchemendy; son-in-law, Paul Detchemendy and granddaughter, Isabella; brothers, William Guilday of Mt. Airy, Robert and Betty Ann Guilday of Ontario, Canada; sisters, Ann Volk of Odenton and Mary Loft of St. Petersburg, FL.; and others extended.

Pete was a prolific artist his entire life. Much of his portrait and calligraphic work was displayed for generals and placed in art exhibits, which won him high honors. He was also the map illustrator in the "The Book of the American Presidents" by Jr. Vincent Wilson (1977). In retirement, Pete took up the hobby of decorative bird carving and won ribbons in the Ward World Carving Competition in Ocean City, MD, and First place and Best in Show in Virginia Beach, VA. He was one of the founding members of the Anne Arundel Carver's Club, which began in 1986. A man of many friends and great family, he will be missed dearly.

Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, 21146. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146. Interment will be in MD Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Queen Anne's County, 255 Comet Avenue, Centreville, MD 21617.
