Peter Wentworth Ernst

March 30, 1945 - October 25, 2023

Pete was born in Norwood , Massachusetts.  He spent his formative years living with his family and Aunt and Uncle on Lake Boone in Hudson, Massachusetts.  Those years instilled in him a love of nature that remained with him always and greatly influenced his life.

Pete didn't have much use for a formal education, dropping out of high school and with his parents' authorization, enlisting at the age of 17 into the Naval Reserve Service in 1962.  He spent six years in the Navy, much of that spent in New London, Connecticut, becoming certified to serve on submarines and specifically the USS Dace.  While with the Navy, Pete completed the equivalent of four years of high school work and received his Certificate of High School Equivalence.  Something he was quite proud of.  Pete received an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1968.

In 1969 he met his future and current wife, Pamela Wood in Ocean City, Maryland where he was making leather articles for sale on the boardwalk and she was working as a meter maid for the OC Police Department.  They married in 1970 and at times had a challenging life but one also filled with many rich and rewarding experiences.  Pete's love of nature lead to a life photographing all aspects of flora and fauna where he was rarely without a camera or two in his hands.  Maine landscapes were one of his favorite topics.

Pete is predeceased in death by his parents, Wentworth and Laura Ernst, Grandparents and Aunts and Uncles.  He is survived by his wife Pamela Wood Ernst, his sisters, Laurie Yeomans and Leslie DeManss and many nieces and nephews that hold a special place in his heart.

A ceremony will be held at a later date at the Crownsville Veterans Cemetery.

In remembrance of Pete, please plant some flowers, cultivate some milkweed for the monarch butterflies and just take a few moments to appreciate the beauty of nature that surrounds us.  Maybe even take a picture or two.
