IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Paul
Gilmour
March 26, 1966 – January 20, 2026
Paul Stewart Gilmour, 59, of Arnold, Maryland, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026, after a courageous and dignified battle with colon cancer. Born on March 26, 1966, in Parsippany, New Jersey, to Donald Roy Gilmour and Jennifer Gilmour, he led a life defined by quiet strength, unwavering integrity, boundless generosity, and a profound love for the people and simple joys that filled his days.
Paul approached everything with focus and care—whether at work, where he was known for his reliability and mentorship, or in the small, everyday moments that mattered most. Colleagues and friends alike could always count on him to do things the right way, to listen without judgment, and to offer steady support when it was needed. His word was his bond, and his presence brought calm to any storm. Paul earned his Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture from the State University of New York Maritime College in 1988. He later completed a Master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College in 1999, deepening his knowledge of how maritime capabilities support America’s safety and defense. Paul had a distinguished 30+ year career with the U.S. Maritime Administration, where he served as Deputy Director of Ship Operations and led several vital national and humanitarian programs. At his core, Paul was profoundly selfless. He helped others in ways that often went unnoticed, sharing his time and skills without fanfare, or simply being there with a kind word or a listening ear. This quiet generosity was one of the qualities that first captured his wife Angela's heart and defined the man she was privileged to love and call her husband. Their life together was built on shared adventures and deep companionship. Paul cherished their time on the water—sailing under clear skies or motoring along peaceful bays—where he found true peace and Angela found her greatest joy watching him at the helm, wind in his hair, smiling that easy smile. Live music was another passion they shared; whether at a local venue or a big festival, he loved the energy, the rhythm, and the way it brought people together. He had a special soft spot for his beloved dogs, first Dolce and Bianca, then Ernie, and finally Shamus and Strider who were his constant companions, sources of endless laughter, tail-wags, and unconditional love through every season of life. They brought out his playful side and reminded all of us daily of the simple happiness that comes from loyalty and affection.
Paul will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty, steady strength, and humor. Though his absence leaves an irreplaceable void, the legacy of his thoughtful, generous heart lives on in every act of kindness inspired by him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Angela Tonello, of Arnold, Maryland; his mother, Jennifer Gilmour of Flanders, New Jersey, his son Sean Gilmour of Los Angeles, California; his son Dylan Gilmour of Port Washington, New York, his brother Mark Gilmour of Pocono Summit, Pennsylvania; his cherished dogs; and a wide circle of family, friends and colleagues, who were fortunate to know and love him. He was preceded in death by his father Donald Roy Gilmour and son Christopher Gilmour.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Paul's s memory may be made to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance (colorectalcancer.org), an organization dedicated to prevention, support, and research for colorectal cancer—honoring his selfless spirit and his wish to help others facing this disease.
