Patrick Derek James Mortka, 40, of Severna Park, passed away suddenly on July 29, 2023. He was born on May 12, 1983 to Bernadette and the late Derek Mortka in West Jersey Hospital in Voorhees, NJ. Patrick was 4 when he moved with his family to Severn, Maryland. Pat was 10 when he became a lively member of the Severn Heights Community in Severna Park. Soccer, Little League with SAC and BSA, Troop 474 (First Class Scout)was a large part of his childhood as well as trips to the ocean and visiting family.
Patrick attended Antioch Christian School and earned an early 47 Credits at Anne Arundel Community College by age 18. After moving to Breckinridge, Colorado to live the dream of snowboarding and working in the resorts, Patrick returned home; at age 23 he enlisted in the United States Army serving with the 10th Mountain Division as a Communications Specialist from 2006 until 2009 in Iraq. During his time in the Army, Patrick received 2 Army Achievement Medals and numerous other recognitions. After several injures, Patrick was honorably discharged and started a career as a carpenter. In his spare time he enjoyed music, stand up comedy, playing bass guitar, fishing, visiting family, game testing, reading, camping, and going to the beach.
Patrick is survived by his mother, Bernadette Gallagher (Brian Prendergast), of Severna Park; two sisters, Aubrey Rita and Rachael Helen; grandparents, John and Lynn Gallagher, of Voorhees, NJ; five aunts, MaryBeth McKeefery (Patrick), of SC, and Maureen Burke (Scott), of Churchville, PA, Lois and Michelle Mortka of, Clementon, NJ, and Christine Mortka, of Florida; three uncles, John Gallagher, of Berlin , NJ , and Kevin Gallagher (Lori), of Stratford, NJ, and Joe Mortka of Clementon, NJ. Patrick is also survived by his two dogs, Hank and Josie; two birds, Budda and Pest (aka Tweetie).
A memorial Mass for Patrick will be offered on Friday, August 11th at 12:30pm in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146.
A graveside service will follow on Friday, August 11th at 2:30pm in the Maryland Veteran Cemetery in Crownsville, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD 21032.
