Patrick Kane Arey of Severna Park, MD died at Johns Hopkins Hospital Sunday July 31, 2011 at the age of 64 from pulmonary fibrosis. He was surrounded by his wife of 40 years Pamela Henery Arey and children Lindsay Parvis and husband Matthew of Silver Spring, MD, Anne Walton Arey of Arnold, MD, Molly O'Neill Arey of Fuquay-Varina, NC, and John Patrick Kane Arey and wife Beckie of Waynesboro, PA, and their priest Rev. Allen Spicer. In addition, Pat is survived by his siblings in VA: Kathleen Carroll of Fredericksburg, Alan Arey of Charlottesville, and Steve Arey and wife Judy of Tazewell; uncle Robert R. Kane of Pearisburg, VA and numerous cousins including Dorothy Morris and Chip Mudd of Chevy Chase, MD.

Pat was a Captain in the US Army and served at Ft. Hood, TX, Vietnam, and Ft. Carson, CO. He graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1969 with a BA in Economics and from Washington and Lee Law School in 1976. He was a public finance attorney at the law firms of McGuire, Woods and Battle in Richmond, VA; Miles and Stockbridge in Baltimore, MD and most recently at Abramoff, Neuberger, and Linder in Baltimore. He was active and served in leadership positions in the National Association of Bond Lawyers and the American Bar Association where he served as Chair of the Section on Local Governments and Public Finance. A lifelong Episcopalian, Pat served on the boards of St. Martin's in the Field Episcopal Day School, Episcopal Social Ministries, the Haiti Partnership, MD Episcopal Cursillo, and was a founding member of the Episcopal Housing Corporation. He was elected to the vestries of St. Martin's in the Field, Severna Park and the Church of the Good Shepherd, Richmond. Pat was an ordained Episcopal Deacon and recently served at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, Annapolis. His interests included spending time with his family, reading history, and stamp collecting.
