Patricia Ann Magness (née Mannion), 69, of Severna Park, passed away peacefully surrounded by her adoring family on Jan. 12, 2026, in the house that her love transformed into a home for more than 35 years. Born July 14, 1956, in Baltimore, to Charles E. and Anna A. Mannion, she was the eldest daughter and third oldest of six siblings.

Patsy — a nickname she grew into — was an all-Maryland girl known for her undeniable intelligence, drive, tenacity, faith, curiosity, interest in people, and passion for family.

Her unbeatable spirit showed itself early. In high school, she was a member of the National Honor Society and vice president of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), even earning the top statewide score on an FBLA accounting exam. She would go on to receive an associate degree that laid the foundation for a successful 38-year accounting career at the University of Maryland Medical Center and its predecessor hospitals.

But before that, her life changed in the most unexpected place: a McDonald’s in Glen Burnie. It was under those Golden Arches that she met a cute-yet-persistent co-worker, John Magness, and the rest was history — well, after John stole her shoes with the offer to return them if Pat promised a date. The results speak for themselves: 49 years of marriage, three children, three grandchildren (two now greeting her in heaven), two sons-in-law, and a pair of adorable granddogs obsessed with all things “Grammy and Pop.”

Married on Oct. 9, 1976, in Linthicum, it didn’t take long for that family to form. Michele was born in 1980, followed four years later by Lisa. Josh arrived 11 years after Lisa. Then, in 2009, came the grandchildren: Cole and Luke (born into Heaven), and then, one year later, Nate.

As proud as a mother and grandmother could be, Pat was an unmistakable constant for all major milestones. She was always early to events — beaming with joy — and ready to share it all on Facebook. She was a Girl Scout Troop leader, taught Catholic CCD classes, and volunteered extensively for the Chartridge community pool. Pat was Michele’s most dedicated supporter in her academic and extracurricular activities, especially in raising her beloved Nate, helping her navigate the highs and lows of motherhood. Whether Lisa was coaching or playing, Pat was her biggest cheerleader from the bleachers. And, no matter the size of the role, she was Josh’s loudest fan and “Drama Mama” in the audience, and, when he pursued journalism, became his top reader.

This energy extended to all she knew: Pat never met a stranger she couldn’t turn into a friend through one of her inquisitive and welcoming conversations.

Other happy moments in her life included: celebrating the marriages of Michele and Jeff (2005) and Josh and Jake (2024), seeing her buddy Nate blossom into a teenager, long walks to Kinder Park with friends, Severna Park’s Rock N’ Roll Revival, family Nertz parties, traveling abroad, working out at the Y, glasses of wine at Cooper’s Hawk and Ocean City trips, just to name a few.

She also loved puzzles, eating crabs, meals with friends, her daily Wordle, praying, Longwood Gardens, her Baltimore Ravens, Maryland Terps, and Baltimore Orioles.

And, of course, she was the queen of all things Disney World, where she shared countless and invaluable memories with her family.

Tiny she may have been, she perfected a “Disney Walk” that sliced through any crowd and ensured that last FastPass would, indeed, be hers. Strangers, family members, even Mickey Mouse himself — all were left in the dust.

Her little size never diminished the force of her soul.

She carried that same can-do spirit and commitment to life through her nearly two-year battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. Her heart filled with an unbreakable bond of faith in Jesus, she exemplified how to persevere with grace, understanding, and optimism — beating the dire odds of a terrible disease and offering hope for future patients through her participation in a clinical trial at NYU Langone Health. Her unwavering strength and ability to find light in the darkness of a terminal illness stand as an everlasting testament to her character and love, and now she is finally free from all that ailed her on this Earth.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Anna Adelaide Thuman Mannion; her father, Charles Edward Mannion Sr.; and her twin grandchildren, Cole and Luke Spencer. She is survived by her husband, John Charles Magness; her children, Michele Lynn Spencer, Lisa Marie Magness, and Joshua Edward Magness; her sons-in-law, Jeff Spencer and Jake Minor; her grandson, Nathan Spencer; her siblings Charles Mannion Jr. (Nancy), Craig Rabuck (Peggy), Carolyn Thompson (Richard), Thomas Mannion (Kathleen), and Richard Mannion; and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and treasured friends she will continue to watch over from above.

Family and friends may visit on Sunday January 18, 2026 from 2:00pm-4:00pm & 6:00pm-8:00pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care,P.A. 495 Ritchie hwy Severna Park, MD 21146.
