IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia A.
Kidwell
August 29, 1935 – December 22, 2018
Patricia (Pat) Ann Kidwell, 83, of Severna Park, Md passed away at Anne Arundel Medical Center on Saturday evening, December 22, 2018. Born in Washington, D.C., she was a long time and active member of Severna Park United Methodist Church (SPUMC).
In her youth she belonged to Job's Daughters. In 1953 she graduated from Suitland High School. Pat fell in love and married Roy G. Kidwell on June 24th, 1955. She worked as a secretary for the FBI under J. Edgar Hoover until they started a family. As a homemaker she stayed busy raising her three children. Through Roy's promotions at the Chessie System Railroad (now CSX) they moved several times, between Maryland to Michigan to Ohio to Maryland back to Ohio and ultimately settling in Maryland where they retired. Regardless of where they lived they would build a second home at their church as their faith was central to their life. During the last 35 years Pat worked on church luncheons and preparing and bringing meals to families experiencing a difficult time. She loved her church role as Wedding Coordinator. Meeting with the future bride and groom, discussing the decorating of the church and organizing their wedding rehearsal brought her much joy. When her family would visit Pat and they happened to meet one of her wedding couples she would introduce everyone by saying, "... and I did their wedding." She loved and looked forward to volunteering in the children's clothing area of the SPUMC's Spring & Fall Yard Sales. She was involved helping organize countless church women's retreats. United Methodist Women and Christian Women's Club were especially close to her heart. Outside of the church, one of her longest active memberships was her canasta card club friends which began in the late 60's with her as a substitute when the family lived in Catonsville and continued until just a few years ago.
Patricia and Roy were car hobbyists owning several antique Plymouths and were members of several car clubs (National Mid-Atlantic Plymouth Club, National Capital Region-Antique Automotive Club of America, and Chesapeake Region of the AACA). They especially loved participating in the Great American Race, where together with Pat's brother Bill Thomas, they traveled cross country in the U.S. and one time traveled from Ottawa Canada to Mexico City.
Mom loved Maryland steamed crabs, Chartwell's frosted crab soup, Rhebs buttercreams, chocolate covered cherries, and truffles are among her many favorites.as well as ice cream. Yes she loved sweets. She enjoyed watching jeopardy and wheel of fortune. Her favorite sports team was the Orioles.
Pat was an avid seamstress making & altering clothes for family & others. She also enjoyed counted cross stitch for a time. Pat worked w/others making and donating blankets for Project Linus and quilting prayer shawls. She enjoyed baking and making homemade candies for family & friends especially over the holidays. In her thoughtfulness she remembered and encouraged family & friends with a card or note on our birthday, holidays, as well as, sad times reminding us we were not forgotten. We hope you received your Christmas card this year, she was determined to get them sent.
