Patricia Kalis-Larkin

Patricia Kalis-Larkin, 83, of Arnold, died of cancer Sept. 28 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Kalis-Larkin was born Aug. 11, 1921, and reared in Baltimore and lived in Arnold since 1954. In 1947 she was married to Frank J. Kalis who died in 1991. In 1994 she married John R. Larkin.

She graduated from the Institute of Notre Dame in Baltimore in 1938 and received her registered nurse's certificate from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. She entered the Navy during World War II and served aboard the hospital ship USS Refuge in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.

After the war she became a private duty nurse through Anne Arundel Medical Center. From 1968 until retiring in 1984 she was the school nurse for Archbishop Spalding High School in Severn.

Mrs. Kalis-Larkin was a member of the Navy Nurses Association and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Severna Park. She volunteered at St. John's and with Birthright of Annapolis. Her interests included travel and gardening.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Frank J. "Jay" Kalis Jr. of Bethesda; two daughters, Kayzie Kalis-Barr of Arnold and Anne Kalis Paxton of Braddock Heights in Frederick County; four stepdaughters, Kathleen Larkin Hannemann of Washington, Ill., Honey Larkin Harrell of Houston, Texas, Linda Heinmuller of Catons-
ville and Deanna Paulis of Chula Vista, CA. two stepsons, Jay Larkin of Arlington, Va., and Chip Larkin of Crownsville; one brother, James McCusker, and one sister, Mary Aileen Williams, both of Baltimore; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. Burial will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Archbishop Spalding High School, 8080 New Cut Road, Severn, MD 21144, or the Gilda Radnor Familial Ovarian Cancer Registry, Roswell Cancer Institute, Elm and Carlton streets, Buffalo, NY 14263-0001.
