On April 24th, 2016, Pastor Elmer Louis Zick, Jr. was called home to Heaven to be with the Lord. Elmer was born in Baltimore, Maryland, only child of the late Elmer Louis Zick, Sr. and Elizabeth Martha Zick, on March 20, 1924. He served in the Army in 1943 during World War II as a heavy machinery mechanic. He graduated from State Teachers College in Towson, MD; Capital University in Columbus, Ohio; and finally Evangelical Lutheran Theological Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. He was ordained as Pastor in June 1953 to Martin Luther Church in Baltimore, MD.

Elmer married the love of his life, Betty Louise Urban of Pittsburgh, PA on September 14, 1955. Mr. and Mrs. Zick had 5 children, Mark, Paul, Timothy, John, and Ellen. Pastor Zick served as Pastor at Lovi Lutheran Church and Perry Hall Lutheran Church in Pennsylvania for one year. He was called to Christ Lutheran Church on Jumpers Hole Road in Millersville, MD where he served for 36 years, retiring on June 13, 1992. Pastor Zick was also Pastor of Augsburg Lutheran Home & Village for 10 years before retiring a second time.

In addition to the duties of a young and growing congregation, Pastor Zick held positions in many organizations throughout the county: Elvaton Improvement Association, First volunteer Chaplain at North Arundel Hospital, Officer at Lutheran Service Center, Lifetime Member and Chaplain of the Earleigh Heights Fire Department in Anne Arundel County, served as Vice President of the Lutheran Home and Hospital, and numerous others.

Pastor Zick is survived by his wife, Betty and their five children; Mark and wife Carol Zick of Shrewsbury, PA; Paul and wife Dale Zick of Arnold, MD; Timothy and wife Sandy Zick of Stewartstown, PA; John and wife Sharon Zick of Toddville, MD; Ellen and husband Leonard Topping of Ruskin, FL. He was also a grandfather of nine grandchildren; Daniel, Ashley, Kristen, Alyssa, Tyler, Brandon, Chelsea, Jenna and Justine AND great grandfather of five; Preston, Lawson, Avery, Claire, and Ares.

Family and friends will honor Pastor Zick's life at Barranco and Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD on April 27th and 28th from 2 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm. A church service will be held April 29th at 12 pm, Christ Lutheran Church, 8245 Jumpers Hole Road, Millersville, MD. Pastor Zick will be laid to rest at Crownsville Veteran Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Rd, Crownsville, MD, following the church service with a celebration of life afterward back at Christ Lutheran Church.
