Henry Brown
The Rev. Henry K. Brown, 76, of Crofton, died of cancer Jan. 20 at home after a lengthy illness.
Born Oct. 30, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Sanford H. and Elizabeth Kendrick Brown, the Rev. Brown was reared in Silver Spring and graduated from Coolidge High School in Washington and Gettysburg College and the Lutheran Theological Seminary, both in Gettysburg, Pa.
He served at Calvary Lutheran Church in Woodbine, Messiah Lutheran Church in Barrett, St. John's Lutheran Church in Martinsburg, W.Va., and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Morgantown, W.Va.
Following his retirement from full-time ministry in 1996, he served several interim pastorates in West Virginia and Maryland. At the time of his death, he was the part-time pastor at Peace Lutheran Church in Glen Burnie.
He was a volunteer chaplain at several hospitals in West Virginia and Maryland and served as a driver for Meals on Wheels and on several boards of groups caring for others. He was also a foster parent for newborn babies through the Children's Home Society of West Virginia.
Surviving are his wife, Gretchen G. Brown; one daughter, Laura Brown of Bowie; two sons, Christopher Brown of Morgantown and Michael Brown of Annapolis; and five grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Ainsworth H. Brown.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 141 LaVerne Ave., Baltimore. Burial is private.
