Oliver Richard "Dick" Bell, 76, of Annapolis and a past resident of Severna Park for 10 years, died of heart failure Jan. 6 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born Oct. 21, 1930, in Baltimore, where he was reared, Mr. Bell graduated from Polytechnical Institute in 1948; the University of Maryland in 1954, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering; the University of Maryland Baltimore Campus, where he earned a law degree; and Bell and Howell, where he earned a degree in electronics.

Mr. Bell served in the Air Force as a flight maintenance officer from 1954 to 1956.

He retired from the former Westinghouse Corporation after working 32 years as a mechanical engineer.

His interests included hunting, fishing and Maryland Terrapins sports. He was a member of St. Andrews by the Bay Catholic Church, American Legion Post 175, Maryland Saltwater Sportfisherman Association and the Kiwanis Club in Severna Park, where he served as past president.

He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Lorraine Bell, father of the late Richard Lee Bell and brother of the late Gerald Brooks. Surviving are his son, John W. Bell of Cape St. Claire; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Burial is private.
