Oliver Lee Hoffman, Jr, beloved husband and father died peacefully at home in Arnold on April 11, 2014. He was 87.

Oliver was born in Windber, Pennsylvania son of Oliver Lee Hoffman and Mayme Manges Hoffman and stepson of Ethel Koontz Hoffman. After high school graduation he enlisted in the Army and served for two years in the Army Air Corps at Gettysburg College. He was honorably discharged and subsequently attended Carnegie Tech University (now Carnegie Mellon), majoring in civil engineering. Oliver was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and the Kiltie Band. While in college he met his wife, Patricia Ann McCall. He was employed by Republic Steel as an engineer for his entire career and lived in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for 18 years before moving to Arnold, Maryland in 1968 to head up the Republic Steel office in Baltimore.  He retired in 1985.

He was an avid golfer and long time member of the Naval Academy Golf Club. He enjoyed sailing and water sports of all kinds and was still waterskiing on the Magothy River in his 70s. He was a skilled bridge player but also enjoyed card games with his entire family. He played the French Horn for the Bay Winds Band and enjoyed traveling around Anne Arundel Country for their concerts. After retirement from Republic Steel, Oliver and his family built a vacation home on the Outer Banks where he spent summers and holidays. He also owned a summer home in Bethany Beach. He served as an elder and was a choir member at Christ Presbyterian Church in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Annapolis. He and his wife enjoyed traveling abroad and cross-country car trips to visit family and friends.

Oliver will be dearly missed by his wife of 64 years, Patricia Hoffman and their three children: Cindy Whittle (AJ Whittle) of Annapolis, Wesley Hoffman (Lee Larkin) of Laguana Vista, TX and Janie Abbott (Rick Abbott) of Arnold.  He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren who firmly believed he hung the moon.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm on April 22 at First Presbyterian Church, 171 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to SPCA of Annapolis, Hospice of the Chesapeake or the Michael J.  Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
