O. James Shuck, 70, a resident of Queenstown and formerly of Cape St. Claire, died suddenly from a stroke on November 10, 2014 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis.

Jim was born to his parents, Olin and Dorothy Shuck on May 24, 1944 in Chicago, IL and was raised in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School, where he played football and baseball. He attended Florida State University and earned a Juris Doctorate Degree at Cumberland Law School at Samford University in Birmingham, AL. He married Andrea Peyton on March 16, 1968.

Mr. Shuck was an attorney with a private practice in Anne Arundel County for over 35 years. In addition, Jim served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War in Special Forces as a Green Beret.
Jim was a member of the Maryland State Bar Assoc., Anne Arundel Bar Assoc., and Chesapeake Lacrosse Assoc. He also served as a high school and recreation league referee in Anne Arundel and Queen Anne's County for soccer, basketball and women's lacrosse.

Jim enjoyed and cherished every moment of every day. Whether it was working in his garden (flowers were his passion), bee keeping, cooking, refereeing games, traveling, skiing, lobster-diving in the Keys, volunteering at the Avalon Theatre or taking in the moment, he never missed the opportunity to show interest in each and everyone he encountered. He gave of his time freely to coach and mentor young athletes.

Jim' greatest joy and love in his life was his family, and he made a point to be there for every event in their lives. He was a man that loved his family and friends more than life. Those who knew Jim or had an opportunity to cross paths with him were truly blessed. You never left a conversation without a smile on your face. He will be missed by all but never forgotten.

Jim was preceded in death by his father Olin Shuck, his mother Dorothy Mitzel, and his adopted father Charlie Mitzel.

He is survived by his wife, Andrea Shuck of Annapolis; his daughters, Jennifer Shuck Baldwin (Bill) of Annapolis, Leann Shuck Gibbs (Dave) of Arnold, Corinne Shuck Seidel (Eamon) of Stevensville, and Rachel Shuck Whitten (Marty) of Greenville, SC; his sisters, Michelle McMillan of Queenstown, Karen Densley of Coco Beach, FL, and Deborah Mitzel of Queenstown; and his grandchildren, Cade, Peyton and Reagan Baldwin, Grace and Laine Gibbs, Jameson and Emme Seidel, and Aleni Whitten.

Friends may visit on November 16, 2014 from 2-6 p.m. at the Barranco & Sons Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Saint Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church, Cape Saint Claire, on Monday, November 17, 2014 at 10am with the interment to follow at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church Cemetery in Millersville.

Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to the "Jim Shuck Scholarship Fund" for local female athletes, 1134 Mermaid Drive Annapolis, MD 21409. Online condolences may be made at www.barrancofuneralhome.com
