Norval Byrd Keen, 88, of Glendale, Calif., a resident of Severna Park for 31 years, died Jan. 20 in Los Angeles.

Born May 21, 1917, in Aberdeen, Mr. Keen was the son of the late Robert and Laura Taylor Keen. He was a manager of Hercules Shipping Co. in Baltimore for 25 years before serving as an Anne Arundel County tax assessor.

He was an avid boater and served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary as a safety inspector for many years. He also was a member of the Democratic Club in Severna Park and the Fleet Reserve Club. Mr. Keen was a long time member of the Elks and a Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus, where he was also an honorary lifetime member.

He was married for 46 years to Margaret Kelly Keen, who predeceased him. He was the father also of the late Margaret Curry

Surviving are three daughters, Susan Bradford of Severna Park, Monica Tipton of Severn and Jane Abbott of Los Angeles.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway.

A Mass of Christian burial will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. Burial will be in Meadowridge Memorial Park, 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge. Online condolences may be made to www.barrancofuneralhome.com.
