Norris James William Shearer, 80, of West Melbourne, Fla., formerly of Severna Park, died of cancer June 30 at his home after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Shearer was born Sept. 24, 1923, and raised in Baltimore, and served in the Army during World War II. He lived in Linthicum before moving in 1952 to Severna Park, where he ran Norris Studio. He was a photographer for the Department of the Army for 20 years before retiring in 1984.
He was a member of the Severna Park Elks, Boumi Temple and Masons in Glen Burnie and American Legion Post 175 in Severna Park. His interests included gardening and nature, especially birdwatching and feeding squirrels.
Surviving are his wife, Norma Shearer; one son, Nicholas H.N. Shearer of Norfolk, Va.; two daughters, Norma O. Sawyer-Kozdra of Sebastian, Fla., and Norena L. Sells of Odenton; one sister, Nancy McCauley of Baltimore; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where services will be held at noon Tuesday. Burial will be in Glen Haven Cemetery in Glen Burnie. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
