Norma Delores Shearer, 93 of Severna Park, Maryland and Florida died at her old home in Severna Park on June 17, 2022 surrounded by her family.

Norma was born September 15, 1928 in Barnum, West Virginia. She was raised in Barnum, W.VA, and Baltimore, MD. She married Norris J.W. Shearer in 1948 and was married for 56 years before Norris died in 2004.

She is also preceded in death by her parents, Daisy Onoma Maynard Herman King and Daniel Webster Herman and her sisters Betty and Eleanor and brothers, Laverne and Harold.

Surviving are her son, Nicholas H.N. Shearer (wife Martha) of Norfolk, VA, daughter Norma O. Sawyer (husband Dave) of Sebastian, FL, and daughter Norena L. Sells (husband Wm. Lynn) of Severna Park, MD, brother Robert V. King of Palm Bay, FL., 11 Grandchildren, Nathan, Nolan, Nevan, Thomas, Rebecca, Robbie (deceased), Milton, Michael, Matthew, Sarah and Christopher; 13 Great-Grandchildren, and one Great-Great Grandson.

Norma's first job started at the candy counter at Kresge's Dept Store in Baltimore, moving on to the Dispensary at Ft. Holabird in Baltimore, then to Second U.S. Army at Camp Meade, MD which became First US Army at Ft George G. Meade, retiring as Chief of OMAR Branch, (Operations and Maintenance Army Reserve) of DCSRM (Deputy Chief of Staff Resource Management).  Norma loved her job and was a dedicated Budget Analyst with the Army, retiring after 34 years of faithful service.

Norma and Norris were active in the community, members of the Severna Park Elks Lodge and Norma was a Ladies of the Elks.  Norma's favorite pastimes was entertaining family and friends, hot crabs and cold beer, slot machines and shuffleboards, playing cards and Trivial Pursuit, puzzles and crossword puzzles, Atari and Mahjong, and boating on the NorNor.  After retiring in 1983, Norma and Norris were snowbirds settling in Palm Bay then West Melbourne. When Norris passed, Norma's grandson, Thomas came to reside and eventually cared for her after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's until June 2017.  After a lengthy illness, she was returned by her children to Maryland in December 2021 and was lovingly cared for by her daughters and her granddaughter Sarah, finally passing in her beloved Severna Park home.

Family and friends may visit on Monday, June 20, 2022 from 5-8pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD, 21146. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at 11am at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD, 21146. Interment will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Park, 7231 Ritchie Hwy, Glen Burnie, MD 21061.
