Norma P. Greene, 89, a resident of Sunrise Assisted Living in Severna Park since 2005, died Nov. 19 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born Sept. 12, 1918, in Chionia, Mo., the daughter of the late Dewey C. and Ollie DeRuse, Mrs. Greene graduated from East Fairmont High School in Fairmont, W.Va., and attended the Douglas Business College.
She worked for Gulf Oil Co. in Pittsburgh, Pa., and Dupont Corp. in Wilmington, Del.
She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Organization and took an active role in the Stephen's Ministry. While residing in Mesa, Ariz., she served as a docent at the Mesa Southwest Museum and as a member of the local Red Hat Society.
Her interests included travel, playing bridge, needlepoint and reading.
Surviving are her husband of 14 years, retired Navy Cmdr. R. Carleton Greene; two sons, Gary Peterson of Mesa, Ariz., and Larry Peterson of California; three stepchildren, Brenton Greene of Arnold, Kirk Greene of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Marilyn Greene of Geneva, N.Y.; one brother, Carl DeRuse of West Virginia; two sisters, Cles Heasley of Pittsburgh and Connie Nicol of Ohio; seven grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren. She was the widow of Edward J. Peterson and Thomas Hooker; mother of the late Roberta Winters; stepmother of the late Craig Greene; stepdaughter of the late Emma Mae DeRuse; and sister of the late Robert DeRuse.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Friday at St. Martin's-in-the-Field Episcopal Church in Severna Park, where memorial services will follow at noon. Burial is private. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.
