He was born on June 19, 1924 in West Hazleton, Pennsylvania to Andrew and Veronica (née Casperian) Moran. He was raised in Milnesville, PA and graduated from Hazel Township High School in 1942. In 1935 Norbert earned the Scholarship Certificate from Honolulu Conservatory of Music in the Hawaiian Guitar. After High school, he served in the U.S Army from 1943-1946 when he was honorably discharged.
He graduated from Spadea Criminology school of Technical Investigation and Fingerprinting in 1949. Norbert had a long career in insurance, he began as an Insurance Adjustor for Motor Club of America, then he became an Insurance Supervisor and worked for Penn National Insurance Company and later Harleyville Insurance company.
On June 18, 1955 Norbert married the love of his life, Dorothy Ann (née Hanis) Moran. They lived in Cherry Hill, NJ for sixty years, and during that time Norbert was active in his community. In 1960, he became a full member of the American Radio Relay League - Ham Radio Operator with the Call Letters Jim K2UWH. In 1979 he was appointed Deputy Director of Civil Defense for the Township of Cherry Hill, in 1993 he received Certifications in HW-2 Emergency Preparedness, WEM Incident System Command and HS-5 Hazardous Materials tor Civil Defense, and in 2002 he was awarded Special Recognition for 47 years of Service to the Residents of Cherry Hill Township by the Office of Emergency Management for the Township of Cherry Hill. He moved to Pasadena, MD six years ago to be with his family here.
Norbert's Catholic faith was a very important part of his life, and he was a Member and Grand Knight (4th Degree) of the Knights of Columbus Council 6760 from 1976 to 1997.
Norbert's hobbies included digging holes and planting in his "sandbox" (his lot), growing tomatoes in his garden, and watching the comics and cartoons on TV with his boisterous laugh. He enjoyed Sunday car rides with his family to pick apples, trips to Canada with his Wife "Dot" (including Niagara Falls where they Honeymooned), and trips to North Jersey and Hazleton to see and visit with family. They had tons of fun bringing Moran's Irish Cream to football games, and they attended every baseball and football game they could. He loved visiting and watching his four granddaughters grow, and they were the joys of his life. He was always traveling to visit his family wherever they were. All he had to say was "Let's Go Dot" and they were off!
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy "Dot" Ann Moran; his daughter Patricia Ann Moran; his sons Paul Andrew Moran (Nancy) and James Moran (Jozee Buccio); and his granddaughters Anastasia Ferko, Mackenzie Ferko, Carley Moran, and Emmie Moran.
