Nila Marie Bronson , née Awe , passed away on March 5, 2021 in Severna Park, Maryland.  Nila was born on June 25th, 1932 in Genoa , I llinois to Walter and Hannah (Niss) Awe.  Nila graduated from Genoa High School and worked for Automatic Electric Co mpany before entering Elmhurst College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Education.  Nila began teaching school at the one-room "Country School , " then became a second grade teacher at Genoa Elementary School.  Nila taught second grade at Genoa until her retirement. Nila was known to say "It took me 22 years to get out of second grade ."

Nila contributed much to the Genoa community in addition to teaching. She was a n active member of the Ney Grange and served as President of the Genoa Township Park District.  Nila married Harry (Bob) Bronson Jr in 1985 , and they made their home in Genoa until they moved to Englewood , F lorida in 1989 to enjoy retirement in the Sunshine State.  After Bob's passing in 2013 , Nila relocated to Severna Park to be near family .

Nila taught Sunday School at  St. Johns United Church of Christ in Harmony , I llinois .  Nila was also an active member of the Christian Women's Group of Englewood and attended the Englewood United Methodist Church.

Nila was passionate about gardening . Nila and Bob created a beautiful garden at their home in Englewood. The grounds and gardens had many flowering ornamental shrubs and plants , providing a showcase of color.  Their garden was featured in local Florida newspapers and was a favorite of the Englewood Garden Club tour s .

Nila is survived by children Roberta ( R ob ert ) Mislevy of Severna Park, Debra Bronson o f Irving , T exas, and Robert J . Bronson of Riverview , F lorida ; three granddaughters Jessica (Remi Gottheil) Mislevy, Meredith (Zachary) Hughes, Cassara (Glenn Schmidt) Bronson, a n iece Amy (Jason) Hueber, n ephew Richard Quist , g rand n ephew Jeff Quist , and five great grandsons.

Nila Maria Awe Bronson was preceded in death by her h usband, Bob, her b rother Arden Awe , and her parents.
