Nancy Lucille Watkins Wright, 76, of Annapolis, Maryland, passed away on March 28, 2019 after a long battle with cancer; it was a victory that cancer had to earn with a fight. Originally from Norfolk, Virginia, Mrs. Wright moved to the Broadneck Peninsula in 1972 with her husband, Robert "Bob" Wright, settling first in the Arnold community of Bay Hills, before moving in 1996 to St. Margaret's.

Mrs. Wright was actively engaged in an array of community volunteer work. She was a founding member of the Bay Hills Community Association, and acted as a board member of the BHCA until moving from the neighborhood. She was instrumental in bringing several speed bumps to the community following a high-profile accident in the early 1980's. She helped run and manage the community pool for over ten years, and served as a judge, parental volunteer and fundraiser for community swim team, and was the driving force behind the founding of the Bay Hills Diving Team, and was a Cub Scout Den mother.

She also participated in working for the Broadneck Federation and the St. Margaret's Community Association and the Anne Arundel Animal Control Board, and donated generously to local public television stations and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, as well as numerous other charities.

Beginning in the 1990's, she began a long career of volunteer work for the Cape St. Clair Volunteer Fire Department after becoming a certified EMT and attending firefighter training. This work continued until just a few weeks before her passing, and was a source of tremendous pride for her, as she worked to raise funds for the station, taught CPR to hundreds, and advocated tirelessly for firefighters and police personnel.

Mrs. Wright attended the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1964 with a degree in Russian, and worked as a translator for the National Security Administration for several years prior to raising her family. For the remainder of her life, she worked as a freelance translator, focusing on Russian, Polish, Czech and the Slavic languages, in which she was largely self-taught. She was also a mentor to others looking to work in the same fields.

Preceded in death by all other previously deceased people, as well as by her husband of nearly fifty years, Bob, she is survived by her brother, Charles of San Diego; son, Charles ("Chip"), currently of Hebron, Kentucky; her daughter, Alex, currently of Malta, New York; daughter-in-law Lisa, son-in-law Patrick, and four grandchildren: Piper and Sydney by Chip and Madeline and Liam by Alex.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday April 13, 2019 at 2:00pm in the Barranco & Sons,P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home 495 Ritchie hwy. Severna Park, MD 21146. Family and friends will be received at the family home following. She will be interred with Bob at Arlington National Cemetery following cremation at a date to be determined.
