Nancy Reynolds Valentine, 79, a resident of Severna Park, MD for the past 34 years, died of respiratory failure on Wednesday, December 30 at Western Maryland Medical Center in Cumberland. Born on June 13, 1936 in Worcester MA to the late Phyllis Arsenault and Francis Aloysius Reynolds, she grew up in Shrewsbury, MA, graduating from St Peters high school in 1954.
Following high school, Nancy earned a nursing degree at St. Vincent's in Worcester, MA and became a registered nurse. While traveling to San Francisco she met Murray F. Valentine who became her best friend and husband of 49 years. While raising their three sons in Newton Falls and Cranberry Lake, NY, Nancy earned a Bachelor's (1975) and Masters (1979) degree in elementary education at SUNY Potsdam. She worked as a nurse at hospitals in Boston, San Francisco, and Baltimore and as an elementary school teacher at Clifton-Fine (Star Lake NY), Severna Park, and Annapolis. Her life was dedicated to helping and educating others. Fatefully, she used her nursing training at Annapolis elementary school in 1990 to perform CPR, saving the life of a school colleague. Nancy never stopped learning, loved to travel and spent summers at Cranberry Lake, NY, where she swam, climbed mountains, hiked, kayaked and spent time on her pontoon boat. She was instrumental in starting a community library in Cranberry Lake as well as presenting a proposal to the town board for the current village beach. Nancy also served as a board member on the Cranberry Lake Boat Club and was active in Retired Teachers' Associations. Nancy had many friendships, old and new, and she took them very seriously. There was no limit to what she would do for others.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Murray, daughter Mary, and brother Gerald F. Reynolds. Always a loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by her sons, Jon M. of Severna Park, Joseph F. of New York NY, and Frank R. and his wife Aimee of Flintstone, MD, her grandchildren, Elizabeth and Brooks Valentine and Jordan and Kaylie Boyd, four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
