Nancy (McCarty) Bell Sohl

Nancy Sohl, 77, of Arnold died of complications following pneumonia January 16 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Mrs. Sohl was born in Spangler, Pennsylvania, on February 16, 1930, to Gertrude and James McCarty, and graduated from Portage High School. She spent the majority of her career on Capitol Hill working for several Members of Congress, including Congresswoman St. Clair and Congressman John E. Hunt. After retiring from Capitol Hill, Mrs. Sohl worked several years for the law firm of Sidley Austin then opened a bookstore in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, before returning to Arnold. She also traveled and worked in Alaska, Arizona, California and Nevada. She loved the ocean and returned to it as often as possible. A firm believer in the "do it yourself" philosophy, she was always involved in home improvement projects.

Active in many organizations, she was the treasurer of the Handicapped Athletic Program (HAP), as well as a member of the Republican Women's Club, and the Anne Arundel Fish and Game Association.

Survivors include her son, Chris Bell, of Arnold; two sisters, Betty Jane Wargo and Lois Booth, both of Portage, Pennsylvania; as well as many loving nieces, nephews and their families.

Family and friends may visit from Noon to 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 20 at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Handicapped Athletic Program (HAP), Box 182, Pasadena, MD 21123.
