IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nancy Ann
Sharp
April 9, 1947 – March 23, 2018
Nancy Ann Sharp, 71, passed away in her sleep Friday, March 23, 2018. She is survived by her sons, Michael and Chris; grandson Ian; sister Loretta; nieces April and Jennifer; nephew Thomas, father-in-law William; brothers-in-law Thomas and Scott; as well as many more family and friends. She is preceded by Louise Pastore, her mother, Nicky Pastore, her nephew and adopted son, Peter, her brother, and her beloved dogs, Bug and Snooper.
She was born in Queens, New York in 1947, and after attending high school, she matriculated to Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, graduating in 1968 with a Bachelor of Music Education. She met William Sharp III while he was stationed at Fort Devens, Massachusetts, and they married August 17, 1968. In 1972, they would move into the house that Bill and his friends and family built in Severn, Maryland.
Over the next 30 years, Nancy would teach music and chorus at Corkran Junior High in Glen Burnie, Central Middle School in Annapolis, and would eventually retire from teaching while at Old Mill Middle School South, where her sons attended. She was very involved in music throughout her life, taking her chorus students across the country to participate in choral festivals, frequently winning medals and honors. She was a member of the Chesapeake Chorale located in Annapolis, and enjoyed many accolades and honors during her time with them, including signing along side the New York Philharmonic conducted by Leonard Bernstein at the Lincoln Center in New York City. As a member of Pasadena United Methodist Church, and Alpha Delta Kappa, a national teachers sorority, she made many stolid and lifelong friends.
In addition to her fanatic support of her hometown sports teams, the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens, she was an avid supporter and advocate of U.S. military veterans, motorcyclists, and the Arts. She was known to give energetic "fist pumps" listening to Aerosmith, or when the sun came out after a rainy week, so she could visit her local Starbucks and sip coffee outside for hours.
Above all things, Nancy enjoyed making people happy. The quintessential "Neighborhood Mom," she was always kept the door open for any of her son's friends, creating a warm, safe place for anyone in need. She fostered such a genuine love and caring atmosphere, that as her "tribe of children" grew into adults, Nancy became affectionately known as "Mamma Sharp."
She will always be remembered as a caring and devoted mother, loving wife, and maternal figure to anyone she met.
