Nancy Waters McClintock, 72, of Odenton, Maryland, passed away on August 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of her children.

Nancy was born on February 24, 1954, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Warner Steynen Waters Sr. and Bertha Irene Dudley Waters. She was raised in Linthicum, Maryland, and later made her home in Severna Park, Crofton, and Odenton.

From an early age, Nancy was bright, creative, and incredibly talented. She attended Andover High School, where she was crowned "Miss Varsity A" Queen on the Homecoming court and served as captain of the cheerleading team. She went on to attend James Madison University, known as Madison College at the time, earning a Bachelor of Science in Fine Arts and becoming a member of Kappa Pi Honorary Art Society. Nancy was a dedicated scholar throughout her education and later earned her master's degree in secondary art education from Loyola University Maryland.

Art was so much more than Nancy's profession- it was a core part of who she was. She was an exceptionally talented artist who could find creativity anywhere. Her artistic mind extended beyond a canvas and into her love of making the spaces around her beautiful through interior design and gardening. Creativity was woven throughout her life, and she loved sharing that gift with others.

Nancy devoted 34 years to teaching with the majority of those years at Severna Park Middle School. As a middle school art teacher, she combined her remarkable artistic talents with her ability to encourage creativity in others. Over more than three decades in the classroom, she influenced countless students and colleagues and left behind a legacy that extends far beyond the walls of a school building.

Those who knew Nancy know that she is impossible to sum up in a few sentences. She was known for her spunky, outspoken personality, quick wit, and a great sense of humor. She knew who she was, had opinions and wasn't afraid to share them, and lived life very much on her own terms. Nancy was a proud and independent woman who built a life for herself and raised two children she was immensely proud of- even if, in true Nancy fashion, she might have lovingly described them as "decent".

Nancy loved nature, babbling brooks, gardening, interior design, and the creative arts. She especially loved summer days by the pool, spending quality time with her children, and in later years discovered a love for cats she swore she'd never have. Above all, Nancy was a mother. She was incredibly proud of her two "decent" children, Lauren McClintock and Madison McClintock, who will carry with them her humor, strength, creativity, and unconditional love.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Lauren McClintock of Crofton, Maryland; her son, Madison McClintock of Elkridge, Maryland; her brother, William Waters of North Carolina; several nieces and nephews; and Bella, her beloved cat and constant companion.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Warner Steynen Waters Sr. and Bertha Irene Dudley Waters; her brother, Warner Steynen Waters Jr., and her sister, Patricia Norris.

Nancy leaves behind a life filled with creativity, independence, laughter, and love. She will be remembered in the artwork she created, the students she inspired, the beauty she brought into the world, and most of all, in the people who loved her. Her one-of-a-kind personality will be deeply missed.

Finally, Nancy wanted the record to reflect that George Clooney officially missed his chance. Also, our sincerest apologies to Nancy for any grammatical errors that may have made it into her obituary. We know she would have caught them.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 11am in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 1110 Saint Stephens Church Road Crownsville, MD 21032.

Interment will follow in Ivy Hill Cemetery, 1201 Sandy Spring Rd, Laurel, MD
