On December 6, 2012, Myrtle Cumberland Gibbons, 94, of Severna Park, died of natural causes at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis.

Myrtle was born on August 5, 1918 in Baltimore. She married Samuel John Gibbons on February 5, 1955 and lived in Dundalk and Baltimore prior to moving to Severna Park in 1964. She worked at Cross and Blackwell then for Koppers Company for 37 years as a machinist and inspector.

Myrtle was a cancer survivor. She loved gardening, sewing, crocheting and porcelain dolls. Myrtle won first prize in the Anne Arundel County Fair for a quilt that she made. She also belonged to the Severna Park Women's Wednesday Morning Bowling League.

She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel John Gibbons and her parents, Oriole and Henry Cumberland.

Myrtle was survived by her daughter, Darlene G. Thompson of Severna Park, four grandchildren; Butch, Tracy, Russell and Sean, and 10 great grand children, her stepson, James Melvin Gibbons of Baltimore, three step granddaughters; Tia, Tracy and Tara and 5 step great grandchildren.

Friends may visit at the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home on Sunday, December 9th, from 2-6pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church in Severna Park on Monday, December 10th, at 12 noon.

Interment at Glen Haven Cemetery in Glen Burnie. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake or to the American Cancer Society.
