Dr. Myron Howard Miller, 81, of Arnold Maryland passed away on October 14, 2017. Born June 5, 1936 in New York City to Etta Miller and Sam Levine, Myron was raised in Hackensack, New Jersey and Nyack, New York.  He is pre-deceased by his brothers Paul and Robert.

Myron is survived by his wife, Barbara Miller, and children Birgitta Miller, Eric Miller, and Veronica Mota; step children Leon, John-Daniel, and Michael Young; and grandchildren Peter Harris, Ashley Young, and Aaron Young.  All will remember his warm, quick sense of humor, generosity, and – in particular – his love for his grandchildren.

Myron had the rare gift of extending genuine hospitality to all who are fortunate to meet him; from the most powerful politician to the most common laborer.  While man of quiet strength, Myron had the rare ability to immediately make one feel valued, welcomed, and respected.

Myron earned a full scholarship to study Physics at Cornell University, earning his Master's in Physics at Clarkson University and Ph.D. at the University of Maryland.  He performed physical science research at multiple institutions in the United States and the Observatoire de Paris, authoring seventy-three peer reviewed papers.  Later he taught statistics and thermodynamics at the University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins University, and the U.S. Naval Academy.

Myron's concern for environmental justice and love of sailing on the Chesapeake Bay found its professional expression in his work as the Chief of the Research Division of the Maryland State Legislature, where he established committees on energy conservation, indoor air quality, and Chesapeake Bay environmental matters.  His teams' research and advocacy for environmental stewardship will ensure that future generations may enjoy Maryland's bays and wetlands.

There will be a memorial service in Arnold, Maryland at a time that shall be announced by the family.  In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes you to perform an act of kindness to another in honor of Myron.
