Myers "Mike" Jay, 95, of Annapolis, Maryland died of natural causes on Tuesday February, 1, 2011 at Annapolitan Assisted Living.

He was born on October 17, 1915 in Beaufort, South Carolina where he was also raised. Past residences include Jacksonville, Florida, Baltimore, and Cape St. Claire where he lived from 1957 to 1974. He then retired to Corea, Maine, and moved back to Annapolis in 2010.

He worked thirty years with the Bull Line Company as a Merchant Seaman; starting as a seventeen-year-old Ordinary Seaman, gained his Masters license at 26 and retired as a Captain. His service included convoys during World War II, where he survived a torpedo sinking. Mr. Jay captained the Francis Asbury Liberty Ship and also served as a Merchant Seaman during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

He is preceded in death by his wife Edith Grant Jay, who died in 1998 in Corea, Maine. He married Edith on September 7, 1941. He is survived by his daughter Karen L. Pumphrey, of Annapolis, and his son Robert W. Jay as well as his grandchildren Neil, Jason, and Lisa, and his great grandchildren, Haley, Cheyenne, Stephanie, Brianna, and Konner.

Family and friends may visit on Saturday, February, 5, 2011 from 3-5 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy in Severna Park. A service will be held as well on Saturday at 5 pm at the Funeral Home. Internment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Cape St. Claire United Methodist Church, 855 Chestnut Tree Dr, Annapolis, MD 21409 or Prospect Harbor United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 101, Prospect Harbor, ME 04669.
