Milton Charles Vanik, 76, of Severna Park, died of natural causes May 22 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie.

Mr. Vanik was born May 6, 1930, and was raised in Carney and lived in Severna Park for 40 years. He worked as a physical chemist at Martin Marietta, W.R. Grace and Lock Insulators. In 1998 he was ordained a minister and was active in prison ministry through the Baltimore Christian Faith Church.

He was past president of Fairwinds Community Association, enjoyed fishing and crabbing on the Severn River and spending time in his greenhouse raising geraniums and tomatoes. He also liked cooking and spending time around his pool.

He was the widower of Arnette Vanik and the brother of the late Leroy and Melvin Vanik.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Vanik; one son, Neil Vanik of Arnold; one daughter, Melanie Shoop of Richmond, Va.; one brother, Howard Vanik of Vero Beach, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where the funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Easton.
