IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mildred "Millie"
N. Pipkin
December 30, 1938 – February 22, 2021
Mildred Nancy Pipkin (a.k.a. Millie, Mom, Grammy, Ga) passed peacefully on February 22, 2021.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband, William Pipkin. She is survived by her three children, Captain William (Bill) Pipkin of Heathsville, VA, Lisa Bentz of Pasadena, MD, and Stacy Pipkin, also of Pasadena, MD, as well as grandchildren, Wayne Luther of Fredericksburg, VA, Garrett Bentz of Weymouth, MA, Emily Bentz of Elkridge, MD, William (Billy) Pipkin of Heathsville, VA, Caiden Pipkin of Pasadena, MD, and Zahra Pipkin of Pasadena, MD.
Millie was a born and raised Maryland girl, living there all of her life. She loved the water, but she wanted to see the world. Her adventures with her friends and family took her to many places across the US, from Florida to Hawaii to Alaska, and across the globe to Israel, Greece, Egypt, Italy, Spain, France, England, Ireland, and the Virgin Islands.
Despite her experiences all over the world, her favorite place was being with her grandchildren. She would do anything for them at any time. She went to every school show, concert, play, and Grandparent's day, no matter when or where they were held. She would grab the kids from school without hesitation, if they were sick. She was easily their biggest fan. Her love for them was really a continuation of her love for her children, and she was our role model for unconditional love. Yes, her love for her family even topped her love for ice cream.
Mom was an only child growing up in the 40s and 50s, but had many friends she would swim, water ski and have fun with. She met and married Bill and shared her love for the water with him, living both on the Chesapeake Bay and Bodkin Creek. She also loved architecture and designed their family house on the bay. She could be counted on to pull out graph paper and help you plot out a remodel, too!
Most of her working life, outside the home, was spent as a bank teller for Baltimore Federal in Severna Park. As children, wherever we went, she seemed to know someone 'from the bank'. After she retired, she went to the Baltimore Hebrew University, because she wanted to be able to read ancient documents without anyone interpreting them for her. While she never became proficient, she was super excited when she saw a section of the Dead Sea scrolls at the British Museum and was able to recognize a word.
Many know that Millie's health was declining over the past couple years, but that doesn't soften the blow of losing your mom, your grandmother, your best confidant and friend. In the end, we know that mom's spirituality gave her the strength to never be afraid to die. She welcomed the opportunity to bask in God's love in Heaven, along with all of the family and friends that went before her. It's that love and fearlessness that brings us comfort knowing she is truly at peace,
and we will all see her and be together one day.
We invite you to visit the video, share your thoughts and chuckle in the memories. That's what Millie would want.
The family is planning a small memorial graveside service in the spring/summer timeframe. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Alzheimer's Association.
