Dr. Mildred Spier Biedenkapp, 93, Arnold, died of heart failure March 1, 2009 at Johns Hopkins Medical Center.
Born 12/19/1915 in Brooklyn, N.Y., Millie graduated from high school in Brooklyn, earned a bachelor's degree from Brooklyn College, a Masters degree from the City College of New York and an Ed.D. from the University of Maryland.
Millie taught High School biology at Bryant High School in New York where she met her husband, Bill Biedenkapp. They moved during his military career and settled in Oxon Hill, Maryland where she was an elementary school teacher at Fort Foote Elementary.
Mille then became a principal in the Prince George's County School System at Longfield Elementary School, Roger B. Taney Junior High School and Surrattsville Senior High School. She was one of the first female high school principals in the County, Additionally she taught education at Bowie State College.
Millie was president of the Maryland State Principals Association for many years.
She was an active member of the Severn Town Club and Hospice of the Chesapeake.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 60years, Bill Biedenkapp, her son, Bob Biedenkapp, and her sister, Claire Morgan.
Surviving are her brother, Robert Spier of Florida, her son, Gary Biedenkapp and wife Jude of Severna Park; two daughters, Heidi Biedenkapp and life partner Jane Phend of Lakeland, Fla., and Patricia Close and her husband Peter of Greenwich, Conn.; five grandchildren, Joe Biedenkapp and his wife Sarah and Meggan Lambiris and her husband George, Brendan Biedenkapp, Tori and Andrew Close and two great-grandchildren, Ella and Dimitrios Lambiris.
Services will be held at Temple Beth Shalom,1461 Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd.
Arnold, MD 21012. On Tuesday at 9am. Burial will follow in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
