Miguel J. Sanchez

Miguel J. Sanchez, of Severna Park, died peacefully at his home at the age of 77 on January 19, 2008.

A graduate of electrical engineering at New Mexico State University, Mr. Sanchez also completed graduate studies at George Washington University, taught mathematics at the University of Maryland and sailing at the Naval Academy, and did research at University of Maryland University College. Mr. Sanchez was employed in various jobs in both the private and public sector, including the University of Maryland Hospital System – Shock Trauma, and retired from the National Security Agency. Throughout his life, he owned and operated several businesses. Mr. Sanchez also served in the Army and earned a Purple Heart during the Korean War. He was a member of Toastmasters, the Rotary Club, and the Lions Club. His interests included chess, philosophy, linguistics, politics, business, finance, sailing, flying, and being with family.

Mr. Sanchez is survived by his beloved wife of over 53 years, Eleanor; his daughters, Pamela Dittmar of Severna Park, Jennifer Sherman of Chevy Chase, and Nicola Sanchez of Bethesda; three grandchildren, Stephen, Jonathan and Melissa; brother, Thomas of California; and sister, Tillie Hogan of California.

A graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on July 11, 2008. Friends and family should report to the Administration Building at 1:30 pm.
