IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael A.
Moore
February 16, 1952 – March 21, 2018
Michael A. Moore, 66, of Severna Park, MD, passed away peacefully at home on March 21st, 2018.
Michael was born on February 16th, 1952, in Leesburg, VA, the son of Robert and Louise Lawson. Growing up in Silver Spring, MD, he quickly discovered his lifelong passions. He discovered his love for the community by volunteering at the local fire department's community events. Mickey Mantle's New York Yankees and Vince Lombardi's Green Bay Packers fostered a passion for sports, which led to Michael playing on Albert Einstein High School football team. Finally, there was music, a lifelong driver for Michael's outlook on life and the foundation for his career. He played in the local drumline, drummed in a local band and eventually owned his own record store, Choice Cuts, in College Park, MD. He loved telling tales - some of them tall - about the bands he'd seen live and the experiences that came with those shows.
In 1985, Michael met Ann (Carol) Stevens, from Severna Park, MD. They would be married in 1986. In 1989, with the birth of their son Nathan, came a newfounded passion: family. His career in retail electronics carried the family up to New England, including brief stays in Cape Cod, MA and New Haven, CT, before finally settling in Norwalk, CT. In Norwalk, Michael coached and sat on the board of directors in the local Little League Baseball organization, where he was loved and respected by the players, coaches and families alike. His career as a businessman in home audio installation flourished during this time. Working in Greenwich, CT, allowed him the opportunity for work for celebrities and professional athletes around the New York Metropolitan Area.
In 2003, the family moved back to Severna Park, MD, where Michael used his business acumen to turn a hobby into a business venture. In 2008, Michael and Carol purchased the Wild Bird Center in Severna Park, a store they grew and continued to operate until 2018. His customers revered him as a friend, even travelling from out of state just to visit him and the store. He continued his participation in the community by appearing at events for local birding clubs and regularly donating items for auction by local organizations.
If asked about what defined Michael as a person, those who knew him would undoubtedly speak of his passion and energy for life. He valued every interaction as valuable and extraordinary. He developed lifelong friendships at every turn in life. If you called him and got his voicemail, you would hear that he was "either boating, fishing, crabbing or swimming." Even as he battled illness, he wanted to make sure everyone around him was having fun, singing and dancing. Michael's positivity, passion and love will never be forgotten by those who knew him.
Michael is survived by his wife Carol, son Nathan and parents, Robert and Louise Lawson.
