IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael
Mclaughlin
December 1, 1962 – July 20, 2023
Michael Charles McLaughlin of Millersville, MD, age 60, passed away at home on Thursday, July 20, 2023 with his loved ones by his side. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Joseph McLaughlin of New York, and brother, Daniel McLaughlin of North Carolina.
Mike is survived by his devoted and beloved wife of 25 years, Helen McLaughlin, and his loving children Jack and Emma McLaughlin. Mike is also survived by his dedicated mother Judith Marmon, and loyal siblings Amy Celarier, Timothy McLaughlin, Christopher McLaughlin and Martha Starr.
Mike was born in Buffalo, New York on December 1, 1962; his youth was spent in Lima, New York. After graduating from McQuaid Jesuit High School and attending college, Mike began a business journey that ultimately culminated in the ownership of 14 Five Guys Burgers and Fries restaurants and two Toppers Pizza restaurants.
In 1996, Mike came to faith in Jesus Christ and became a committed and active member in his church, serving quietly and faithfully, dedicated to meeting the needs of many. Mike and Helen married in 1997 at First Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA.
A man with a strong faith and work ethic, Mike devoted his life and career to faithfully serving his Lord Jesus Christ and providing for his family. Mike and Helen taught weekly Sunday school at Granite Baptist Church, and for many years Mike taught children of all ages at Bible Study Fellowship.
Mike loved to laugh and looked forward to times he and Helen shared with couples at church where he joked with the men incessantly. He and the family also enjoyed being part of a weekly church small group, and Mike always anticipated spending time with his men's Bible study group at Carlson's Donuts.
Mike passionately played an active role in Rockbridge Academy's sports programs as a coach for Jack's and Emma's athletic teams, specifically boys' basketball and girls' lacrosse. Mike was a great coach, and his passion for the game and love for the students was a hallmark of his leadership there.
In whatever role Mike played in life, he always served others and sought to leave things better than he found them. His strong work ethic was grounded in his faith in Christ, so it is no surprise that Mike's favorite verse comes from Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mike's life on Friday, July 28, 2023 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146.
