Michael Sean Calhoon, 36, died Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Hospice of the Chesapeake's John and Cathy Belcher Campus in Pasadena, MD from a brain tumor.

He leaves his wife of 14 years, Christina (Saveleski) Calhoon; his son, Seth Michael (age 11), and his three daughters: Allison Nicole (age 9), Jaime Kathleen (age 7) and Natalie Elizabeth (age 5).

Born in Annapolis on November 27, 1979 and raised in Arnold, the son of Edward Julian and Katherine (Myers) Calhoon, he was a lifelong resident of Anne Arundel County.

Diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 10, Michael underwent several operations as a youth and was blessed by being under the care of Dr. Ben Carson at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 2009 the tumor returned as cancer and he fought bravely. Perhaps what most defined him was the way he did not allow this diagnosis to hinder him. In his youth, he studied the acoustic guitar for 8 years and became a Ham Radio Operator at age 14.

While a student at Broadneck High School he met his wife in a photography class. After graduating in 1997 he attended the University of Maryland, finishing three years later, in 2000, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. The next year he and Christina were married at St. Andrew by the Bay. In subsequent years he would earn three Masters degrees in all: a dual M.S. Technology Management/MBA program at University of Maryland University College in 2005 and an M.S. in Cybersecurity from Polytechnic Institute of New York University in 2013.

Michael developed a career that used his skills both as a consultant and federal government employee in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. He worked as a Senior Network Engineer, Senior Project Manager, and on IPv6, as a Senior Network Engineer, demonstrating his high-level skills.

He had a life-long passion for baseball that he shared with his son. He took them often to see the Baltimore Orioles, and also attended Seth's Little League and baseball games. He loved animals, which always included his family's cats. He also participated tirelessly in his workouts, training locally with B Good and friends in Tribe Strength. Friends were always important to him and he remained close to his childhood friends throughout his life.

He is also survived by his sister, Julie Christine Semenuk, his mom, Kate Myers Calhoon, his brother, Edward Julian Calhoon, Jr., sister-in-law Jennifer Phipps, and their son, Ethan Keane Calhoon. He is predeceased by his father, Edward Julian Calhoon, Sr.

Friends may visit on Friday, June 17, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home located at 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, Maryland 21146. His Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
