Michael Joseph Byrnes, "Mickey", 60, a resident of Glen Burnie for 33 years and previously of Baltimore and Pittsburgh, died of cancer at home on Nov. 6.

Mr. Byrnes was born November 13, 1948, in Baltimore, MD to Marguerite Byrnes and the late Michael J. Byrnes Sr. Mr. Byrnes attended high school at Mt. St. Joe in Baltimore and South Catholic High in Pittsburgh. Mr. Byrnes attended college at Duquesne University where he excelled on the football team.

Mr. Byrnes was a second-generation Branch Manger and Salesman for Frank W. Winne and Son for 37 years. He began his career as warehouseman learning under his father from the ground up. Mr. Byrnes went on to become a leading Salesman and eventually followed in his father's shoes Managing the Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina region.

Family was the important part of his life. Mr. Byrnes frequently golfed with his loving wife Cynthia. As a proud father, he was actively engaged with his children as an avid fan, recreational coach, and NHFS official. Mr. Byrnes was a long-time supporter of Old Mill High School athletics.

Mr. Byrnes was a life-long athlete who enjoyed playing softball, basketball, and golf. Over the years he played on many local league teams including Graul's Market, Miller, Larry's Tavern, Byrnes Computers, and competed in several National Championships with Angels Food Market, Express, and National Champion's Ashley's Lounge. In 1984, Mr. Byrnes was named a member of the National All-Tournament Team after Angels Food Market placed 3rd in the Nation.


He is survived by his mother Marguerite Byrnes, wife, Cynthia Byrnes, whom he married February 13, 1971; three daughters, Tricia Hook, Michelle Byrnes, and Tenille Dewees; two sons Matthew Byrnes and Kevin Byrnes; one sister, Ann Kuebler; four grandchildren Connor, Bailey, Elizabeth, and Anna; two nieces; and six nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 10 and 11 at Barranco and Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway Severna Park. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Galilee Lutheran Church, 4652 Mountain Rd, Pasadena. Interment in Meadowridge Memorial Park, Elkridge.
