IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mayank D.
Patel
September 12, 1958 – November 7, 2020
Mayank Dadubhai Patel passed away on Saturday, November 7th while out backpacking with some of his closest friends. He was 62 years old.
Mayank was born in Tanzania in 1958, and grew up there, as well as in Kenya, Zambia, and the United Kingdom. He moved to the United States to attend the University of Maryland where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science.
He married Janet Louise in 1986, and they had one daughter Kristen. Together they lived in Brookeville, Maryland, before they each settled in Severna Park, Maryland. Mayank led a successful career working for various technology corporations, traveling domestically and internationally as needed. He especially loved his trips to Heidelberg, Germany, and looked forward to returning to Europe.
When at home, Mayank could be found working outside in his yard and garden, researching Sprinter vans, or partaking in a Guinness or two at a favorite local establishment with family and friends.
He spent his recent retirement working on projects around his house and planning future adventures, specifically, trips to hike the West Highland Way in Scotland and the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage in Spain.
Mayank is survived by his daughter Kristen, her mother Janet, his mother Nirmala, and his sister Dhara. A small virtual service for the family will take place this year, however an in-person memorial will be scheduled for Autumn 2021.
In place of flowers, donations can be made to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy at https://donate.appalachiantrail.org .
