Maureen Morris
The Rev. Maureen June Morris, 57, of Severna Park and formerly of Henry, Ill., died unexpectedly April 21, at her home.
Born June 29, 1950, in Washington D.C., the Rev. Morris graduated in 1968 from Severna Park High School, and attended the University of Maryland, where she earned a master's degree in microbiology. She worked in that field for several years until entering seminary in Kentucky.
She served on the pastoral staff of two churches in the Midwest, and served as a minister in the Blackhawk Presbytery in Oregon, Ill., until 1995, when she returned to Severna Park to take up residence in her family home in Ben Oaks. As a minister in the Presbytery of Baltimore, she served as an interim pastor for several area churches, including a position for several years as interim associate pastor for pastoral care at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, and was most recently listed as parish associate on the staff. At the time of her death, she was on sabbatical from her ministry, and was enrolled at Anne Arundel Community College in the physician's assistant program.
Her interests included classical music; she played the piano and clarinet. She also occasionally joined her sister, the late Marion Overman, in the NaFianna Pipe Band. She enjoyed traveling, and toured the country by bus after college. Her most recent trip was to Italy in 2007.
She is survived by her son, Jeremy Morris of Severna Park; one sister, Karen S. Morris of Toronto, Canada; and two nieces of Severna Park.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, 611 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd., Severna Park.
Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.
