Maudie Sue Dean Barham, 71, of Severna Park, died of brain cancer Aug. 27 at home after a six-month illness.
Born March 15, 1933, in Dean, Ark., the daughter of the late James Alexander and Beadie Elma Penny Dean, Mrs. Barham graduated from Delaplaine High School in 1950, where she was an excellent student and athlete, and Arkansas State University in 1961.
Mrs. Barham taught the children of the Oklahoma State University staff at the Jimma Agricultural Technical School in Ethiopa until 1964. Subsequently she taught school in Maine and Prince Georges County schools, where she worked from 1965 to 1991 in the physical education department.
She enjoyed sports, dancing, music and playing cards.
Surviving are her husband, Grover Madden Barham Sr., whom she married Dec. 2, 1950; three sons, John A. Barham of Bowie, Grover M. Barham Jr. of Chincoteague, Va. and Geoffrey Dean Barham Sr. of Millersville; one daughter, E. Ruth Barham of Severna Park; one brother, Ryburn Dean of Pekin, Ill.; two sisters, Mary Lou Higgins and Ilene Burgess, both of Pocahontas, Ark.; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Barranco & Sons Funeral Home on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tues from 4 to 6 p.m. with services to follow. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Gardens in Pocahontas, Ark.
