Matthew Auer
Matthew Stephen Auer, 21, of Arnold, died May 4 at the Melbourne Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia, where he was in a study-abroad program. The cause of death is unavailable at this time.
Mr. Auer was born Dec. 11, 1982, in Silver Spring, the son of Carol Louise and Stephen Joseph Auer.
He was in his junior year at the University of Maryland Business School, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
His interests included photography, swimming, travel, hiking, basketball and football.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Amanda Louise Ackley of Fairfax, Va., and Ashley Anne Auer of Arnold.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. A prayer service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 669 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. Burial is private.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Matthew Stephen Auer Benefit Fund (for local student scholarships), SunTrust Bank, 566B Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146.
