Mathilde "Tillie" Kalinich (nee Rouchard), 88, passed away peacefully on June 30. She is survived by her daughters Stephanie Kalinich and Maribeth Kalinich, and beloved companion schnauzer, Lily, all of Arnold, MD.

She was preceded in death by a third daughter, Leslie Kalinich, and her beloved sister, Anne Marie Kidd, and brother, Louis Rouchard.

Tillie grew up in Locust Point and was a graduate of Seton High School. She studied at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. Her marriage to Albert Kalinich ended in divorce.

A feminist before the word was coined, Tillie ran a Baltimore internist's laboratory before leaving to join Hynson, Westcott & Dunning, later Becton Dickinson. She was a senior research scientist in immunology there until her retirement in 1992.

Tilly loved cooking, antiques, bird-watching, fishing & crabbing on the water, mysteries, forensics and politics. She was a fancier of music and the arts and attended the Beatles concert at the Baltimore Civic Center in 1964 with her daughters, Stephie and Maribeth.

A memorial mass will be said in Tillie's honor. The family will hold a celebration of her life at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to The American Cancer Society or The American Diabetes Association.
